We want to announce the dates for our upcoming Local Missions Conference; March 19th – 21st , 2017 which is a Sunday through Tuesday. This will be our fourth annual Conference in this still fledgling ministry of Local Missions. This year we are excited to anticipate introducing several new Local Missions’ initiatives that will, we hope, excite you and spur you to become engaged in Local Missions.
For those that might be new to Berean, several years ago we became convinced that God has only One Mission on earth, that is the Great Commission, which states “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’" (Mt 28:18-20)
But this “mission” has two realms in which to operate at the same time; local and global. The term “missions” has almost always been relegated to the global aspect of the great commission. We have come to realize that what our foreign missionaries are doing globally is the same thing we are to be doing locally. And so we now recognize that “missions” has a local aspect to it as well.
So, four years ago we developed our local missions thrust by challenging our people at Berean to reach out into our own “Jerusalem”, to be a witness to our community by means of “spiritual entrepreneurialism”, that is…using spiritual capital to invest in lives through local missions ministries. These local missions range from prison ministry, to rescue mission work, to Christianity Explored, to the biggest item in local missions- the planting of a New Testament Church in Detroit with De’Juan and Ashley Artley.
This conference is designed to promote local missions, motivate the church toward local missions, and support local missions. Our keynote speaker will be Mr. Brian Trainer who is the academic Dean at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, the school De’Juan is attending to prepare for his church plant. Brian has been involved in three church plants in his ministry and brings a lifetime of experience in missions along with his astute theological perspective.
We need Berean to step up to this conference and embrace it. We need your prayers, your attendance, and your giving to make this conference a great benefit to the cause. Our conference offering will go to help operate all the Local Missions ministries we have going as well as building a “war chest” for our proposed church plant in just a few short years. We will literally need tens of thousands of dollars for this church plant to get off the ground and find the greatest chance for success. This annual offering is huge in preparing for this church plant so we plead with you to give generously.
More information will be forthcoming but please mark the dates March 19th – 21st down on your calendar now, won’t you? Make those days sacred appointments to meet together with your Berean brothers and sisters and be a part of the Local Missions thrust here at Berean.
