As we approach the Labor Day Holiday, I am reminded to be grateful for work. Yes, that’s right, I will rest and relax on Labor Day while reflecting on the God given gift of work. After all, God created us to work (Genesis 2:15) and work itself is not part of the curse given at the fall of man. The result of the curse was that work became hard with thorns and thistles and a sweaty face and toil (Genesis 3:18-19). One beautiful thing about work, is that it allows us to love our neighbor (Mark 12:31). The gifts that God has given each of us and the skills we employ in our work are not wasted serving our families and neighbors. All our work is done for the Glory of God and with great purpose (I Corinthians 10:31 and Colossians 3:23). I encourage all of you to consider work in this way, for our work will never be done. One day in the heavenly city we will work still as servants worshiping our Lord for all eternity (Revelation 22:3). So, work is in our design, we should all do it and all of it is noble. Thankfully, we are also commanded to rest (Exodus 20:9-11) so, a holiday like Labor Day as an extra day of rest is very welcomed! I wish all of you a restful holiday
weekend.
